Simultaneous delivery of several antimicrobial drugs from multi‐compartment glycerol‐silicone membranes

چکیده

Combining drugs is an efficient tool in fighting bacterial infections. It has been proven to enable increased antimicrobial activity compared mono-drug therapies. Current commercial dressings for treatment of infected wounds provide delivery one drug only. Therefore, there obvious need develop a technology enabling incorporation and release two more actives. Ideally, such should prevent potential cross-reactions between the during long-term storage. Here, concept compartmentalization within distinct glycerol domains glycerol-silicone elastomer membranes presented. Multiple are encapsulated different types hampering any cross-reactions. The simultaneously released upon contact with aqueous media kinetics can be precisely adjusted by tuning various material parameters, as content membrane thickness. Ultimately, capabilities evaluated against variety bacteria agar diffusion assay. effective species, which confirms efficiency even at minimum moisture levels. platform enables virtually unlimited combinations from families (e.g., antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, pain relief agents) facilitating new ways treating wound disorders.

The vesosome-- a multicompartment drug delivery vehicle.

Assembling structures to divide space controllably and spontaneously into subunits at the nanometer scale is a significant challenge, although one that biology has solved in two distinct ways: prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Prokaryotes have a single compartment delimited by one or more lipid-protein membranes. Eukaryotes have nested-membrane structures that provide internal compartments--such as t...

Construction of nanoscale multicompartment liposomes for combinatory drug delivery.

Liposomes are clinically used delivery systems for chemotherapeutic agents, biological macromolecules and diagnostics. Due to their flexibility in size and composition, different types of liposomes have been developed varying in surface and structural characteristics. Multicompartment liposomes constitute an attractive drug carrier system offering advantages in terms of inner vesicle protection...

Delivery and activity of antimicrobial drugs released from human fibrin sealant.

Engraftment and healing of native or cultured skin grafts depend on adherence, vascularization, and control of microbial contamination in the wound bed. Fibrin sealant is a biocompatible polymer that may be used to promote skin engraftment by serving as a delivery vehicle for antimicrobial drugs. Human fibrin sealant (25 mg/ml) was polymerized with antibacterial agents (mupirocin [32 micrograms...

Simultaneous Estimation of Several Persentiles

In many simulation studies the performance of the modeled system is characterized only by mean values of the performance indices. However, the percentiles are more informative in summarizing the performance. Several simultaneous percentiles, presented for example in the form of the boxplot, provide the analyst with better understanding of the system's behaviour. The simultaneous estimation of s...

Antimicrobial Drugs

Antimicrobials are classified by the pathogens targeted, e.g. as antibacterials or antifungals. This grouping may be subdivided as antibacterials also include urinary antiseptics and anti-mycobacterial drugs. Antimicrobials, especially antibacterials, are strictly classified into chemotherapeutic agents (synthetic chemicals), and antibiotics, produced from living organisms, usually fungi. Howev...
